Nanovor Wiki

Hello Nanovor Community!

I wasn’t sure how else to start this, so let me preface this post by saying: if you’re reading this, thank you for your interest in Nanovor, whether it’s due to nostalgia from your childhood, or simply for what the future may hold for our beloved game. If you’re here, chances are you’ve stumbled upon the homepage and thus discovered the community of fans and developers working to bring the game back to its former glory. If you haven’t done so already, I highly recommend you check out the subreddit, or even better, the discord, so you can be up-to-date on all the latest developments for Nanovor 2.0 and converse with other fans of the game. As a fan of the game myself, I can say that being involved with the discord community has spiked my passion for the game to new heights, and what started out as a night full of nostalgia in early April, has now led to me creating this post (as well as working on a bare bones battle simulator, more on that in a later post). Anyways, I hope my spiel about community has made you inclined to at least take a look around our discord server, but if not, perhaps somewhere down the line I can contribute to changing that! With that being said, allow me to move on and talk about what this blog project I’ve undertaken is all about, and what it is going to entail.

Firstly, allow me to introduce myself. My username (as you may have already seen) is Felneus, but throughout my gaming years, many have opted to call me simply, “Fel”, and that is a nickname I am perfectly fine with, and actually prefer in some scenarios. I don’t know about you guys, but when you have a nickname and someone calls you by your full name, it feels like you’ve done or said something wrong, and you’re about to meet the consequences. All this to say, feel free to call me Fel, I welcome it and I know it’s much easier to type out than the full thing. Similar to a lot of you I imagine, I played Nanovor in my childhood years, and have fond memories of those days (I wouldn’t be here right now if I didn’t). It was truly ahead of its time, and though it might not’ve been perfect, I was nonetheless devastated the day Smith & Tinker (the company behind Nanovor) announced their decision to close down the game for good. I could go on about how Nanovor: Evolution was a laughably watered-down version of the original battle game (Nanovor: the OBG), or how the mobile app S&T released years later flopped, but I’d rather save that discussion for another day, because it would consume too much space on this post.

On that note, let’s get right to it. I plan on having weekly posts to this blog, either on Saturdays or Sundays (this first one is on a Saturday, but I may opt to move it to Sunday night, PST in the future), where I talk about strategy guides, compare different Nanovor, and share ideas for what I’ve heard called “Fanovor”, or fan-made Nanovor. For the strategy guides portion, I plan on having a segment called “Swarm of the Week”, where I hone in on one particular swarm and how it can be used most effectively. As time goes on and I accumulate more posts, I will explicitly state how a certain swarm can be used to counter another swarm, or how you should approach certain matchups while using one swarm and playing against another. With that in mind, the strategy guides will be referring to battle strategies instead of other strategies on leveling up, collecting Nanovor, etc, mostly due to the fact that we don’t have playable servers running yet, but also because with micro-transactions removed, we don’t know what to expect from the player account side of the game. Moving along, the second segment will be called “2 Nanovor, 1 Arena” , and this will be the segment where I take a close look at two particular Nanovor, and compare them. Some weeks, I may look at two Nanovor who serve similar purposes, and discuss how one may be better suited to certain situations versus another, or I may look at two Nanovor from completely opposite sides of the spectrum and talk about each one individually (I may trash one while praising the other, which will be the case for this first post, hehe). Alternatively, I could examine how two Nanovor work great as a duo, and talk about the synergy that exists there. Lastly, I plan on having the Fanovor segment be called simply, “Fanovor of the Week”, something that may be cliché, but it’s to-the-point. In this segment, I will present an idea for a new future Nanovor, which will include its exact stats, swarm value, move-set, energy costs,  and attack effects, but may not necessarily be coupled with an artist’s rendition of the Fanovor (I’m a terrible artist, so I would only be hurting the case for the Fanovor by drawing something grotesque to represent it). However, I would be more than happy to take submissions from fellow members of the community and highlight those Fanovor along with their corresponding artwork (if included). If you do want to send a submission, I would prefer you send me a DM on Discord (Felneus#1101), and include the name, attacks, and stats of your Nanovor, and your thought process behind designing it, i.e. why you think it would be a good addition to the game, and how balanced you think it is. Otherwise, please feel free to leave your ideas down in the comments so I can take them into consideration. For featured Fanovor that I created myself, I will be discussing my reasoning behind the design, and include 3 swarms where I think the Fanovor could thrive. I will give honest thoughts and critiques of my own Fanovor ideas, as well as those from the submissions, so be warned. I am also happy to take suggestions for “Swarm of the Week” and “2 Nanovor, 1 Arena”, so feel free to contact me through discord with those suggestions, or, once again, leave them in the comments for me to look over! Phew, that took a while, and we haven’t even gotten into the segments! I think I’ve touched upon all the bases I wanted to cover for this introductory post, but I’ll make sure to continuously include the bits about submissions in future posts as well. If you have any questions regarding anything I have failed to address, you know how to reach me. The subsequent post will contain the actual first edition of these weekly Nanovor blog posts. Let’s jump right into it!
